The tripartite agreement was signed by Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, leader of four NDFB groups, Satyendra Garg, JOINT Secretary of ABSU, Ministry of Home Affairs and Kumar Sanjay Krishna, Secretary General of Assam. The signing of the agreement will likely bring together leading interest groups in a single framework to end the nearly 50-year-old Bodo crisis. About 1500 cadres from different groups such as the NDFB (RD), the NDFB (P) and the NDFB (S) are rehabilitated by the central and Assam powers and assimilated to the general public. In addition, the NDFB groups will abandon the path of violence and dissolve their organizations within one month of signing the agreement. The agreement will also protect and promote Bodo`s unique cultural heritage and give them access to extensive development opportunities, bringing peace and harmony to the whole of Assam. All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) and NDFB groups have signed the tripartite agreement. Assam`s chief secretary, Kumar Sanjay Krishna, also signed the agreement.

Several clashes between extremist groups in Assam and the government have left hundreds dead.• The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) and the Indian government signed the first agreement in 1993. This agreement led to the creation of a Bodoland Autonomous Council with certain political powers.• The second Bodo Agreement was signed in 2003 between the Indian government and the extremist group Bodo Liberation Tigers (BLT). • The second agreement led to the formation of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) with four districts – Udalguri, Chirang, Baska and Kokrajhar. These areas are usually referred to as Bodoland Territorial Districts (BTAD). A tripartite agreement signed on January 27 in New Delhi by representatives of Bodo organizations with the central authorities and Assam presents a new model of power-sharing and governance in Assam, in line with the sixth list of the Indian Constitution. Among the Bodo parts of the agreement are the All Bodo Students` Union (ABSU), the United Bodo People`s Organisation (UBPO) and the four groups of the Boroland National Democratic Front (NDFB).
